Week 20-24 April 2020: Geneva UN@75 Dialogues
As part of the UN75 global initiative launched by the Secretary-General, UN Geneva is proposing a series of participative gatherings led by UN agencies, permanent missions, academic institutions, think tanks and other stakeholders, be held over the week of 20-24 April 2020, in the Palais des Nations and other locations around the city.
The gatherings will be genuine multi-stakeholder dialogues, focusing on mega-trends and global challenges such as the climate crisis, growing inequalities, conflicts and violence, new technologies and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The dialogues will be organized in diverse settings, from classrooms to boardrooms, from parliaments to village halls, and through traditional and new media. The outcome of the dialogues will be presented to world leaders and senior UN officials at meetings and events, culminating with a high-level meeting of Heads of State and Government in New York on 21 September 2020.
On 24 April, International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, UN Geneva will organize a large-scale event in the Assembly Hall of the Palais des Nations in attendance of the Secretary-General, together with other UN high-level officials, Member States, academia, private sector and media, to engage in a conversation with youth representatives on innovative and inclusive partnerships for a new multilateralism.
In 2019 and 2020, UN Geneva and partners from across International Geneva and beyond are marking 100 Years of Multilateralism in Geneva and the evolution of global cooperation over the past century.
During the week of 20-24 April 2020, cultural activities and exhibitions will take place in the premises of the Palais des Nations, including an international arts competition involving artists and children, organized by the Perception Change Project.
